A call for AOL users

As some already noticed: there is a SP1.4 Pre Release available over at yabbforum.com. We made some serious internal changes to improve security but this may have some bad side effects. That's why we need this build tested AFAP!

We're looking especially for users who access the internet through AOL as we expect some trouble there. Please download the test build and check if you have problems to stay logged after going off- and online again.

As more testers we have, as faster this release will take off.

Can you give any information as to what improvements to security were made?
Are there some problems with 1.3.2?

I'm just a little surprised since 1.3.2 was released not so long ago.  I'm also really curious cause I just got the 3DXL forums all updated, and modded like crazy, to install SP1.3.2 and make everything compatible.

One of the biggest changes is the implementation of sessions for forms and users (actually the mod here called full session protection).
The reason why we especially want AOL users to test is because they change IP addresses more then they change underwear and we need to see if this effects them staying logged in or not.

Nothing to add here Smiley

When I log on to my Yabb 1.4 using AOL here's what happens....

1.> I'm able to log in.

2.> I click on ANY link and I'm logged out.

3.> Its kinda a pain. lol

When I connect just using my cable connection and the normal IE browser, everything is fine.

Is there any solution for the AOL problem? Alot of my forum members are complaining about not being able to get further than 1 click before they are auto-logged out. I think the feature is nice, but it takes out ALOT of innocent bystanders as well. Kinda like dropping the nuclear bomb on a small city to kill the 50 or so "bad guys".

Any suggestions? Maybe you could have something where you add user names to a list and if they are on the list, they can browse like before. I don't know.

Nukuler, it's pronounced nukuler Wink

I haven't fully tested SP1.4 yet, okay I admit I've barely started, but I was wondering whether or not it can be disabled.

This would greately solved the problem with people being logged out but I some how doubt it's possible to disable it. Undecided

I thought this was just for power users, but obviously not. Is there any chance to make it an option, or much better, a separate option for power users too.

Hells bells... I thought the very same thing and almost posted exactly what you did, a few minutes ago. Now, that is frightening. lol

I like JD_Steele's suggestion about a white list. The only problem is, especially for larger forums, adding to that white list might become quite a chore.

Dam Yankee - right, and think about the new-registering-aol-users, who aren´t jet on this list, because of the lack of time...

over at YaBBForums.. someone recommended only checking the first part of the IP  ie.. 100.100.100.xx
