YaBB 2 Is Here!

As you may know, YaBB 1 Gold Service Pack 2 (SP2) has been in development for a LONG time.  You will be pleased to know that development has reached its final stages, and WE PRESENT YOU WITH RELEASE CANDIDATE 1!

You may notice something of a name change....  After much consideration, it was decided that SP2 was much more than "Yet another Service Pack," as it is essentially a total rewrite of the base YaBB 1 code.  Therefore we decided that it deserved the name "YaBB 2."

The project formerly known as YaBB 2 is now known as YaBB 3, and it is still being actively developed.  This is a ground-up rewrite of YaBB written in object-oriented Perl.  However, it is far from beta stages.

AS THIS IS A RELEASE CANDIDATE, FEATURE REQUESTS ARE NO LONGER BEING TAKEN. We have spent a long time implementing all the best features from existing mods, and many new ones too.  However, it is now time to wrap development up and release YaBB 2.  You deserve it.

We hope the number of bugs in this release is relatively small, but it is still NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PRODUCTION USE, and is NOT fully supported.  Please only install this release if you feel you are competent enough to do so on your own, and you are willing to post bugs and help make YaBB 2 the best release of YaBB ever!

If you wish to begin writing mods for YaBB 2, keep in mind that the code will change again before a final release is out.  This means your mod will no longer work for the general public.

Does anyone know where I could see a full list of mods which have been included in the new release?

Wow.  Merry Christmas to us.   Grin

Time to test this bad boy out.

Like Kong said, though, it would be nice to see a complete list of all the mods that were included as standard fare in this release.  That way we won't be trying to edit old mods to get them to work on YaBB 2, when they've already been implemented.

Currently using Y2.3 With no mods (though that will hopefully change, soon).

The 'What's New' list in first post more or less says so - or have a look here:

Well, I've got it installed on my test board, and I must say it's really impressive, so far.  I am amazed at just how far YaBB has come.  Great work guys.   Cheesy

It's going to be a giant pain in the ass converting my three real boards over once I'm ready to do so, especially trying to remember all of the minor tweaks I'd made over time, but it'll be worth it when I find the time.

Indeed. I'm still wondering how I'll convert my little board into this monster without losing the posts.

I've decided to download and check out YaBB2.

Maybe it's just me but I'm having a hell of a time getting my directory structure setup in YaBB. Tongue

I got it sorted out.

I'm not sure why but for some reason I ended up with two paths.pl.

One of them in the Yabb2 folder (all settings blank) and one outside of hte yabb2 folder in the cgi-bin with all the settings in it.

Not exactly sure how this happened.  Something in teh Setup.pl.

Okay.... I'm getting it all setup and so far I like but I found a problem.

I'm using a back up of 3DXL to test and check it out.  This includes members.  I had the password security mod installed (encrypted passwords).  No one can log in unless they use thier encripted password to do it.

For wxample, if the members password was dog and password seciruty encrypted it to y38shl30sh3 then that member woudl have to log in with the password y38shl30sh3.

Anyone know a way around this?  Maybe a script to decrypt and write the decrypted password into username.dat before conversion?

Although everything seems to be working fine I am still having the odd problem.

When I go into Admin Section I can't Edit Template Configuration or Edit Style Sheet.

I get the same error... can't find the forum/default.css

I've tried configuring the path a number of different ways.  Maybe it's jut cause i'm tried but I can't figure it out. Tongue

As I said it's all working fine except for hta one thing.... from what I can tell.
