As Xavier pointed out, this is in fact a documented bug of YaBB 2.1, and will be fixed in the next version of YaBB.
  
Currently using Y2.3 With no mods (though that will hopefully change, soon).

Found a bug in the mod!
If you register with a realname (reg_realname=1) the realname is always overwritten with the username.

Found the solution already:

The lines

Select All
if($FORM{'realname'} == '') {
		    ${$uid.$reguser}{'realname'}    = $FORM{'username'};
	  }


has to be

if($FORM{'realname'} eq '') {

Installed the mod and most is working... however I when I install the adminindex.pl, I get the following error when I try to access the Admin Center.

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@soe.killerpings.ws and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have also attached the adminindex.pl file that is causing the error.

Just an FYI. Using this mod, if one requires a person to enter their date of birth on registration it will accept month and day without the year being entered... and if you then are also using the "Age Lock" mod, that person is unable to update their profile at all and gets a "birthday is invalid" error for anything they try to do and requiring an Admin to fix the DOB.

OK went to run board mod on version 14 and this was the board mod error I received:

Step 6 ... failed - ERR(1): Search string could not be found

Hi

I'm totally new to my yabb board but triing to master it as best as I can/  I have had people spam the board for a while now so downloaded http://www.boardmod.org/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=newsy2;action=display;num=1138744711 to mod my board to try and minimise this.  I saved the contents of the zip folder into the yabb 2 folder in the installation directory and then downloaded all the files I was instructed to at http://www.boardmod.org/docs/boardmodforthebloodynovice.html ;

The poblem I had originally was that it instructs you to download:
English.lng
Settings.pl
template.html
YaBB.cgi (or YaBB.pl)

I could only find yabb.pl and not the others.  So I downloaded all of the files that were in the main directory.  I then did the mod in boardmod (latest version) and got the following errors:

Step 9 ... failed - ERR(2): Could not find file to edit (C:\Yabb\Yabbboardmod\Admin\AdminSubList.pl)

Step 10 ... failed - ERR(2): Could not find file to edit (C:\Yabb\Yabbboardmod\Admin\ModList.pl)

Any ideas?  I use Yabb 2.1 for my board.

Hi Cass

This doesn't really answer your question but I used to be hit with a lot of spam and then installed the 'Distilled Email Domains' mod. This will allow you to filter out some of the most offending websites.

If you have your forum setup so that guests have to register before they can post then the 'Distilled Email Domains' mod is good.

If you allow guests to post without registering then why not consider installing the new 'Message Approval' mod where every message has to be approved before being shown on the forum.  What I like about this one is that if you also have the 'IP Banning' mod installed it is then easy to ban the spammer before deleting the message.

There are several other security related mods that are worth looking at that help limit spam.

Thanks I require users to register and confirm via email link before they can post but I'm still getting spam.  I;ll look at the other mods but would still like the solution to my original problem if anyone can help.  Hope the weather in Aberdeenshire is good!

I am having a problem with this mod in step number 8 it is returning a "String not found" error.  This refers back to the sources/register.pl file which I have attached

This mod is NOT compatible with Distilled Email Domains.
Distilled Email changes references to $tmpregemail, such as:
"SEARCH"
Code
Select All
<input type="text" maxlength="60" name="email" value="$tmpregemail" size="45" />

"REPLACE"
Code
Select All
$aedomains <!-- ### Distilled Email Domains mod ### -->

in a couple spots in the Sources/Register.pl.
Not sure what else is not cross compliant, thats where I stopped.

Is there a work around?? I would so love to get this mod installed.
