I have discovered that my problem isnt the version of YaBB its that the mod is not compatible with Recent Users List. I can install one but not the other.

I'm having the same problem. The other way around for me though, I already had the shoutbox installed. I'm looking at this too, and will let you know if I resolve it, but I did make some manual changes to shoutbox, so it's going to take me a while to sort it out. I'll let you know if I get them working together.

When placing the shoutbox outside of the info centre, using an iframe, is it just a case of not including steps four and five, and inserting the shoutbox tag where you wist to show it?

Is there anything in steps four and five that need to be kept, especially for security. It appears to work fine, but I don't understand the code, so need to be sure.

Thanks.

Senjion, I think these mods will work together, usually, I've have them going on YaBB 1.3.2. Try reording the mods, and also I've found an error with the file that's currently available in reply four of the thread: http://www.boardmod.org/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=newssp13;action=display;num=109974353... but it sounds like that you have it already working.

What version of YaBB are you running?

The two mods will coexist quite nicely, if you have an understanding of HTML tables it is very simple to put it where you like it to go.  Just have a look at the area it targets on boardindex.pl  that is the info centre itself.  Take note of how whichever mod (shoutbox or recent users) has placed itself in as a  column useing rowspan, and then just mirror that structure for the opposite side of the table for the other mod.  If you have a looksee through this thread and through the recent users thread you'll find that this topic has come up quite a number of times, and quite a number of times people have posted what worked for them.

I've had this installed for a couple of weeks, with moderate usage, and I think it's a great feature.

However, I did experience the same problem as Dam Yankee did earlier in the thread, of the whole forum appearing inside the window when logged out. I found though that quickly resloved itself, and must have been something to do with cached pages. Undecided Also, the option to make it viewable only to members totally disables it, with just a ill-sized login option, which doesn't solve the problem if you try it. I didn't place the shoutbox in the info centre, but rather used the shoutbox tag, and placed it in a side menu, if that helps with trying to reslove these two issues.

I left out the whole of the code that should have gone in BoardIndex.pl. - Could it be that I should have kept part of that code, or moved some of it, and that's the cause of the bugs?

Great mod, but still needs a couple of tweaks to work perfectly.

I'll continue to run it though, bugs or no bugs. Wink

The refresh button does not work though in Opera, Netscape, or Firefox; but does work with IE. The auto-refresh seems to work fine in all of them though. Also, the shout button works fine.

There are numerous bugs in this mod but at the moment I don't have the time to sort them out. If anyone wishes to take over the mod and release a fixed version, please feel free.

As for fitting it in the info centre, that's just a layout conflict. If you install Recent users first it modifies the info centre so Shoutbox can't find the code for its own search and replace. Figuring out how to work round this fried my brain first time around and still does so it's just a case of manually playing with your info centre table I'm afraid.

Just a request when you reright. Is it possible to have the shoutbox refresh for everyone when a post is made, and not just the poster. I suppose a refresh limit should be placed on it to avoid abuse.

I know about the auto refresh, but I don't like to have that set too fast, because I had requests to slow it from 20s so that all the shouts can be easily read through.

<edit>
On second thoughts, this might create more problems than it solves. Some members might find it refreshing to quickly when they are trying to use it.

I don't know if it's possible to force a client refresh beyond the meta tag... I would imagine it would involve the server communicating to all the clients which sounds quite infeasible.

Does anyone know how I can make the shoutbox scroll to the last message for those on a Mac?

Also, Ronnie, or anyone, comments on my post #197 would be welcome. I just want to be sure thare isn't something that I've left out that I shouldn't have.

Thanks.

Is it supposed to scroll to the bottom for PC users?!? - I can't see any mechanism for it doing that, but hey.

You will be best adding a little javascript to auto scroll the window. add this in your template, in the head tag

Code
Select All
<script>
<!--
function myscroll() {
	window.scrollTo(0,99999);
}
//-->
</script>

And then modify the body tag so it is like this

Code
Select All
<body onload="myscroll();">

That code is best for cross-browser compatibility.
