On the download page, it says: Quote:
Update: This is the mod package that you can use with Boardmod to upgrade an existing YaBB forum. It is not a full package.

Is that update file within the zip file or is it located somewhere else?

There is no upgrade package yet, but you can generate an upgrade mod file using the Mod file generator.

afaik this generated a horrible huge mod file and thats why we havent released an update mod. i doubt that there will ever exist one. also the datastructure changed a lot so the previously mods would most lickely not work anyways.

Yeah, the modfile won't work without changes most likely. On my forum, I have a handful of mods that are available here, plus a large amount of custom modifications. Here's how I updated to Y2.1:
  • Removed all BoardMod mods from my 2.0 board
  • Generated a modfile of my 2.0 board to the 2.0 stock sources
  • Applied my modfile to 2.1, changing it as needed
  • Applied the BoardMod mods.

A 2.1 upgrade mod would be doable, but it'd need to have instructions on what to upload and what not to. In my opinion, it's better to start from a stock 2.1 and mod it from there rather then use a mod to make 2.0 into a 2.1.

And about the huge modfile: Yes, it will be large. Part of that was due to errors on my part Undecided, but it still would be unfriendly in how BoardMod handles it.

Hrm, I was afraid of that ... but thanks for the suggestion on how to handle the upgrade.  If it's so drastic a change, shouldn't you call it Version 3?

It's not that drastic of a change. The only data structures changing that I can think of is the help files and .wlog to .rlog. A large amount of changes have been made to fix small bugs here and there, but not that much code has changed.

Not a big change, but big enough that it can't be done with BoardMod, and big enough to render many modifications inept without making code changes.  Big enough to completely undo all progress done on an established YaBB 2.0 board unless extensive steps are taken to protect your interests.

Don't get me wrong, I am greatful for all your (pl.) hard work on this project, but could you try to send these bug fixes in smaller doses so we don't have to jump through hoops to keep up?

There was only 5 weeks in between 2.0 and 2.1.  That's a pretty short turnaround, especially since 2.0 was such a major release.  We wanted to get a fixed update out as soon as possible for those that were waiting to upgrade or to catch everyone else before they went too mod crazy.  That being said, we wanted to release 2.1 when all known bugs at the time were fixed, which we did with success.  It would be quite a pain to only fix a few things, test it extensively, then go through the lengthy processes required to push a release out.  And if we released more frequently, we'd have people complaining that it's too frequent and they can't keep up with upgrades or with updating their mods.  We will only release quick updates when there is a really major bug that needs to be addressed immediately or there is a security issue.  In the past, we have tried to create "upgrade mods" that allow you to apply the fixes with BoardMod, but there are times when the fixes require too many code changes or there are just plain too many fixes to make a reasonable size mod.
