small template vault update

I've added a color preview to the template database (see screenshot) and increased the templates per page from 10 to 20. That should give a better overview about the available styles. Smiley

Been thinking about that. The problem with Y2 is that it requires tons of files for a complete template. So the only way is to zip all the files and only show a screenshot of the templates. Downside: takes a lot of diskscape and bandwidth. Undecided

hm... right.
and what about unzipping the template on the server by a script. as long as the directories its allowed to unzip is well defined it shouldnt be a security risk.

That would allow a dynamic preview, however that would take even more diskspace - just imagine some replaces all the images (which is now possible with the new template system).

On the other hand, using those templates for a live preview is a very high security problem, much more than with the old Y1 templates. Because with the new ones, you can/hzave to execute perl to generate the final html code. A very close look at every submission would be necessary to make such a system save.

i really didnt thought about the perl code inside templates. thats a serious problem. also if we secure ourselves against execution by displaying an image only - who says that "our users" know enough perl to check the code. i guess most ppl will just download and install the template without checking anything...

You'd have to either go the screenshot route or the dynamic route.  But either way, you probably need to verify every template before posting it in the vault for the obvious security risks in Y2 templates.

....unless someone builds a mod that actually outputs the colour-strip on a page, so the template author could grab the code snippet and present that?

It's not a big deal to extract the used colors from the template and show a small color preview, I can write a script for that (that's what's done right now with the SP1 templates too). I guess we'll go with the screenshot option.
