Great site!

I've used the search feature and read lots of pages here, but cannot seem to find out what to use in order to add photo embedding capability to my boards.

Can anyone direct me to that information?

Thanks in advance,
Tre'

Well this is not really "ontopic" but you might want to take a look at the File Attachment Mod or the Gallery Mod

wonderful to see the forum back!

its rather easy to be smug about  backups and disaster recovery when it happens to someone else.
We lost a server a few months back, had a full set of backup tapes for it, verified every day. Only thing was, come the restore, every file on the tape was 0 bytes long...........

Unfortunately backups do take time and effort. I backup and then check the back ups before writing to cd or dvd disks (tape was not reliable enough). It is a pain and time consuming but after over 8 years of hackers banging at the door they finally found a way to get in and caused much damage. Back ups ready to go i had the servers back up in a matter of hours. All the time i spent on back ups, i am glad i did now.

In any case i am glad to see this important forum on line again. Thank you for all the many hours of work you folks devote to this forum.

tape not reliable enough? what sort were you using? The ones we have are guaranteed for 50 years, given the right storage - mind you, the tape drives cost a small fortune!

Why use tapes when DVD's are so affordable nowadays?

Currently using Y2.3 With no mods (though that will hopefully change, soon).

well, if you can fit 60Gb of data on a DVD, and #know# that its recording surface is still good in 20 years, fair enough.
To be honest, I'm talking at an enterprise level, rather than SOHO.

We used tape drives in the past most of the time the backups were fine. The odd failure was a risk i did not want to take. So we switched to CD and now DVD. Tar ball the backups then compress (gzip) (file permmisions and paths are saved) them and write to DVD disk. Then i extract the backup from the DVD disk and see if all is fine. CD back ups years old some as old as 2x speed and i can still get the backups off the cd disks. Not that very old back ups are any good anymore it is just to good know the back ups are safe and sound when the time comes i need back ups. We all know it's not if i need them but when i need them.

CD / DVD drives and disks are so cheap these days.
The only draw back is the amount of data that can go on the disks.
