Shoutbox 1.0b4 for SP1.3.1
Oct 16th, 2003 at 9:26pm
Print Post
This mod adds a Shoutbox to the Info Centre on the board index. It is a new rewrite inspired by caliman's Shoutbox mod.

Download for SP1.3.1

Screenshot:

There are a lot of options and it's very customisable. Full details and more screenshots can be found on my YaBB Mods page and in the mod file itself.

This is very much a beta so all comments and criticisms are appreciated. Unless they're personal. In which case I might cry.

Great to see this mod progressing. The only question I have is similar to one that was posted in the earlier thread. Is it possible to place the Shoutbox underneath the Recent Users List so that all that space is not wasted?

EDIT:
  I am moving most of the Information like...
LastUsers and Latest stuff to a new board Im going
to call the InfoBoard...  to keep the BoardIndex clean and quick...
So my BoardIndex looks alot different than it did
when this was posted...

It's definitely possible, but you'd have to organise the HTML by hand. It's pretty much impossible to cater for the different layouts of everyone's board so for the moment I've just put it in on the left by default. You can of course move it wherever you wish.

Could you tell me where I'm supposed to look in the HTML to find the coordinates that I need to change?
Thanks.

Sorry for the double post, but I just visited BillBSET2's site. BillBSET2, could you tell me what changes you made to get the shoutbox in that position? It looks better there than at the bottom of the recent users list. Cheers.

It should work if you are logged in and the shouts were made using your username as the name. If you can confirm there is still a problem after you've checked this, I'll have a look at it.

In the modified BoardIndex.pl, the Info Centre begins on line 244.

You need to apply the mod, then open up Boardindex.pl and edit the HTML. On lines 257 and 258 you'll see

Code
Select All
require "$sourcedir/Shoutbox.pl";
&ShoutBox;

These are the lines that actually display all the shoutbox stuff (except the "Shoutbox" title bar).

I can't explain it step-by-step cause it would take forever, but basically you need to re-write the HTML for the info centre, putting those two lines in where you want the shoutbox to go. BillBSET2 is on the right lines, just needs a little more tweaking to get the rowspans etc. correct.

If you are editing things by hand then you may as well stop using the $shout_rowspan variable in Boardindex.pl.

However please remember that this is definitely still a beta and there's no point putting in a lot of work now because when the final version comes out all your work would be lost.

ronnie - yes, I am logged in as admin and shouted as admin. Even tried to log out, shout as guest, log in as user1, and shout as user1, logged in again as admin, shouted as admin and as user2 - no highlighting at all ??? Board-URL and testaccount wil come via IM

One other strange thing: if you have written a shout and sent it with "enter" and then go an writing some more text on your keyboard (just like you do in a chatroom), you will send the same text again each time, you use "space". (sorry for my horrible english Lips Sealed )

Hi,,,
I placed only this code on the Boardindex.pl
Code
Select All
~;

      require "$sourcedir/Shoutbox.pl";
      &ShoutBox;

      $yymain .= qq~

and placed it in here...

Code
Select All
        <td bgcolor="$color{'titlebg'}" class="titlebg" align="center" colspan="2">
        <font class="text1" color="$color{'titletext'}" size="2"><b>$txt{'685'}</b></font></td>
<td bgcolor="$color{'titlebg'}" class="titlebg" align="center" colspan="2">

<font class="text1" color="$color{'titletext'}" size="2"><b>ShoutBox</b></font>

        </td>
      </tr>~;
      $yymain .= qq~<tr>
        <td class="catbg" bgcolor="$color{'catbg'}" colspan="2"> <font size="2" class="catbg"><b>$txt{'200'}</b></font></td>
            <td rowspan="$rul_rowspan" class="windowbg2" bgcolor="$color{'windowbg'}" valign="top" width="25%">

~;

      require "$sourcedir/Shoutbox.pl";
      &ShoutBox;

      $yymain .= qq~
<BR>
<font class="windowbg2" color="$color{'titletext'}" size="2"><b>$rul_txt{'1'} $rul_users_display $rul_txt{'17'}</b></font><BR>~;

      &RecentUsersListShow;

      $yymain .= qq~

<BR>
      </td></tr><tr>

I had to move things around alittle and I don't know too much about this language yet...

See I moved the Last On Line stuff down... alittle...
I left out the ShoutBox size variable... So Size is controlled by the size of the shoutbox...

Hope this helps...

I just thought I would mention..
When I first loaded the Shoutbox...
the HighLight was working... then it stopped...??
I messed with the BoardIndex.pl quite a bit to
get the proper fit...
http://www.blazing-saddles.biz/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl
Seems to work real good otherwise...

Thanks

sorry, one more bug: disabling of auto-refresh doesn´t work proper. I´ve tried it with "-1" with no success. "0" doesn´t work at all (won´t be saved in settings). And if you choose a large amount of seconds it, doesn´t work proper, either (tried it with "600", but get a refresh every minute or so....

This confusion is my fault, I should have made this clearer. The auto-refresh setting is only used when generating the default template HTML - it uses that setting to fill in the meta refresh tag.

If you change the setting, it doesn't update the meta tag in the template - it just changes what will be used next time the default template is generated. So to change the refresh time, you have to edit the meta tag in the template.

What do you think - should I scrap the auto-refresh setting and make it so you just have to edit the template to change it?
