hello

so, im finish with BoardMod 1.0b5 for Macintosh! Whether it functions finally, I dn't know.
you can download it here.
Attention!!: Don't try that on your Yabb! You must install a new version on your desktop and test it with the new version (BM for Mac is only a beta version).
Oh: ONLY MAC OS 10.1.5 or higher!!!!!! it doesn't work under mac os 7.x,8.x,9.x!!!!

in the first select-box, you must select the modification file. in the others, you must select the files, which it wants. (Ohhhhh my English Roll Eyes Undecided Lips Sealed )

download: http://www.vonsiebenthal.net/boardmod.sit
please post your experience.
thanks
Alex

OK, first impressions... - don't take these comments the wrong way, I only want to help you improve this software, so don't get angry at me OK?

Firstly, make it so people can choose the mods from whatever folder they want (rather than just restricting them to the documents folder, as it is now) - it's not very good, as a lot of mod files are in folders, which you cannot access in your initial dilog box.

Secondly, I really don't like how it automatically prompts you to select the file, before I even click a button, it's not very good, I would reccomend having a main screen, with a button to press when you want to apply a mod.

Thirdly - I understand this is still in development, but I would reccomend taking a leaf from the real boardmod, and try to 'copy' that as much as possible - meaning try and get some kind of file browser in there, so you can select what mods you want to apply, and then apply them - this also enables you to use BM on multiple verisons of YaBB...

also, it comes out with some very obscure error messages, which seem wrong (when aplpying a mod onto a clean YaBB, it comes back with an error -24 which I assume means search string not found - BM then quits out) - I would like to see some more informative error messages - the problem is, this is a known working mod, applied on a clena SP1.3.1 - so I don't know why it pops up that error.

As I say, don't take this the wrong way, I want to help - I'm an experienced Mac user, and I wok for apple, so I have access to lots of cool stuff that may be of help - if you want to discuss some of these things with me, feel free to PM me, and I'll do my best to respond.

thanks very much for making this! 8)

Hello!

Here is another Mac-Freak. I first was sad when I saw, that there now is a BoarMod for Mac, because I am going to write a Mac-Version of it to learn "cocoa" that way. So you broke my will to be a great programmer  Grin You can do what you want, I will write a MacBoarMod too.  Wink

I have to agree with LoonyPandora in all points. But I also think, you know about that problems.

I have a copy of my board ( www.revolutionboard.de) running on my apache-server with Mac OS 10.2.6 tried your BoardMod with the "back to top"-Mod, which only does two changes (one "add after" and one "replace") in the "Display.pl" which is located in the "/Sources"-Folder. Boardmod finished without errors. But it only did the first task "add after". The second task, "replace", which had to be done in the same file was not done by BoardMod. I had to change it onmy with SubEthaEdit (a great editor!).

I Hope, that helps you. And take a look at my board, will be a great place for german speaking programmers Wink

Which language do you use? I, as I told, try to learn coca and objective C.

Greez from Germany,

Sascha

I tried to write a BoardMod for Mac with the formerly free version of Runtime Revolution, but the limitation to 10 lines of code per object made it too hard and it never got really far. But the basic engine, reading and replacing codes in different files worked good. I hope to get such results in coca fast...

And as you can see, my english is not very good too  Grin

For those who want to write their own BoardMod: use my BM Functionality Test Mod to ensure that you implemented everything properly. Read the README file to get instructions how to test.

Ta for that - very useful. - it shows up a few flaws in his version of BM for Mac - it doesnt appear to even do anything - even though it says files were modified...

hmm, - If only I could code Objective C...  Cry
