Maybe you should reset Variables/log.txt. Make sure the file is empty and has the filesize 0.

Michael, My board has suffered a hiccup, last night the server altered the chmod on a lot of my files, I'm working on a fix and have posted in the general board, however one side effect is that this mod has stopped working, the test is on the shtml page but no users are listed as being online even though they are, I'm certain it's related, could you please tell me what chmod all the files related to this mod should be.

Yep, that ones right, have sent a mail to my hosts regarding this as it definately wasnt me that did it, it basically altered the chmod of LOADS of my files during the night. Other than that I don't know what else it's done but on my main page at www.thetophouse.com I have a text counter, print who is online and a counter for who is in chat, none of them are now showing, ie for print users online it just shows :-

"Online now in the forum are :- "

but with no numbers or user names listed, even though people are online, can you help a clueless newbie out with any ideas what it could be Michael?

This is now giving me a headache! What i've done so far :-

uploaded a new blank log.txt
chmodded log.txt to 666
uploaded a backup of index.shtml

Still not showing whose online, something is really wierd here, are there any other related files that could be chmodded wrongly?

now this is REALLY strange. The problems were still occuring, I'd tried allsorts, reuploafing files, checking chmods etc, nothing worked. I took time off to watch my favourite TV program, (stargate sg1) and I've just come back and lo and behold all is working again!!!!
