The Referral System Mod is done.  It works on my board.  Anyone interested in testing can download it here.

Please let me know if it works, or needs work.

Firstly, thanks for this mod.

Problem: I installed this manually on my SP 1 cgi version.  Everything went fine until i tried doing a dummy registration. The "Register" button would not work/submit.

Any ideas.

Hmmm.... that is odd.... I did a test on my board (all of them actually...) and it worked.

Perhaps take a look at the install you did again, or uninstall and try again.

Sorry I can't suggest anything more useful right now...

I am running it in a few different environments without any problems.  It should install fine on a clean install of SP1.  Nobody has emailed me or messaged me with problems with this mod.  That is all I can say... I don't know how other's tests have gone.

Okay. I installed the referral mod with what seemed as a flawless installation.

Upon doing a mock test I found the following code revealed at the top of my register page when the referers was switched on...

Code
Select All
if(on eq "0") { admin = ""; }


and this code when referers was switched off.

Code
Select All
if(0 eq "0") { admin = ""; }

The error is in the Register.pl file.

The problem code is this:

Is it located under 'sub Register'

Just not sure what to do with it...

Not yet... I tried several different things, and only made it worse.  Then I had to get some work done at my day job (it always seems to get in the way).

Still hoping to find a fix... anyone else have some ideas?  I am sure it is just a matter of where the code is being placed in the file.

Hey, Zone -- the referral mod is wonderful.  I really appreciate the work you did so that we could benefit from this function.

Do you know if anyone has tweaked it to include an actual invitation function?  I'd like to add an icon or a link to the Board Index that would allow a user to send an invitation with the referral string already embedded into it.

Have you done something like this on your own system, or know of anyone who has?

Hi Sue - The mod is nice, but I certainly can't take credit for it.  I only did some modification work, with the assistance of a couple otheres on the board, to make it work with SP1.

To my knowledge, there has not been any tweaks to it as you described.  That certainly would be a nice feature though!

Anyone else know of anything like this?

Thanks so much for your fast reply, Zone.  If nothing else emerges, I'll try to facilitate this myself.

I understand Mad Hatter was the original author based on the mod notes?  Unfortunately his/her site seems to no longer be around.  I should find another way to get in touch with the original author to get permission to add this functionality myself, shouldn't I?  (at least if I get it working on my own system and plan on sharing it back here).
