I did yet another fresh install and it works great!!!  

The only thing I did different is this:
the BoardIndex.template when I opened it wordpad opened it instead of note pad. I noticed this the other times too but I just downloaded and uploaded it again assuming that would reformat it if needed. This time I copied it and pasted it in notepad and then saved and uploaded that.  I really don't know what else it could have been, that's the only thing I changed this time around.

So, if you have problems make sure word didn't take over, or some other editor for that mater.

The symptom was a blank area where the text screen should be with a red "T" in the upper lefthand corner. None of the above resolutions applied to my problem.  If you get the same, maybe this will help you.

It all seems to work well apart from the 'User list' on the right of the window is missing.
Obviously something I have done wrong, but I can't work it out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh i forgot about your server prob..anyway i found and old file for 2.4 ver 1.3.
I wanted to try out the irc chat with a few friends..it installed ok and works ok..only have 1 prob.is that the irc server seems to kick us of the server every now and then..last night we used it for about 4 hours ok then after we kicked off  dont know why this is..then i tryed an other server which was ok for afew hours yet again kicked off..last night my freinds coundnt get on irc chat.says banned..i just tryed myself again i it works..very strange..

Is there an setting that could casue this ban.

I haven't tried it myself, but there really wasn't too many changes between 2.4 and 2.5, so I can pretty much guarantee that it will work fine. The chances are that some of the search strings might have changed slightly though, so you might have to tweak it to run it through BoardMod, but if you install it manually you should be able to get it working no problems.
