[2.3.1] Online Activity 4 YaBB 2.3.1
Feb 28th, 2009 at 12:10am
Print Post
This mod adds a "Online Activity" area to the info center on the Board Index page listing the users activities on the forum.

Feb 28th, 2009 at 9:04pm: beta 0.2 - Added admin options to set permissions for access to the "Online Activity" list and to enable/disable Guest activity in the list. Also added height restriction (300 px) to the list box.

Mar 1st, 2009 at 5:37pm: beta 0.21 - fixed list not scrolling properly in IE7.

Mar 1st, 2009 at 11:21pm: beta 0.22 - added more (and more detailed) action descriptions.

Mar 2nd, 2009 at 8:23am: beta 0.22a - no changes - just added a "Event Calendar" compatible mod file.

Mar 16th, 2009 at 9:37pm: beta 0.23 - added more action descriptions.

Mar 18th, 2009 at 8:11pm: beta 0.3 - made the list display members first and then guests.

Does this have height restriction? Thats a possible large amount of users that could be online and make the page very large.

Hi Carsten

Very good mod.  Thank you.

A good addition to this would be an option to have only Admins and Global Mods able to view when activated ????

Thanks again.

Nice copy of our "Who is Where?" but not so sophisticated jet!  Wink

Just for the record - this is absolutely not a copy of the "Who is Where" mod. There is a lot of differences:

1. I wrote the code from scratch
2. It's free!
3. It's in another location.
4. It's free!
5. It's more simple - and faster.
6. It's free!
7. The name is "Online Activity".
8. It's free!

Wink

This is an early beta - admin option to set permission will be added, as well as more 'action' descriptions.

Why when I have activity enable must I always be asked to resend data when refreshing the page?

Also if I click the button to show activity, if I click on it again it doesn't go away and I always have to resend data.

The information to activate the activity list is passed via a hidden form field to ensure that the list is correctly updated every time you click on the "Online Activity" button. When you click on the "Home" tab the board index is reset and the activity list is closed.

If, as you suggest, the list was closed when you clicked the button again, you would have to close and then open again to update the activity list. I find it more user friendly to do it the way it is.

Ok I have gotten used to refreshing my page using F5 so the resend data was kinda annoying for me.  I have a keyboard with macro key so I will set it to reload the home page or I'll customize your mod and add a button to your mod marked close but that links to the home page.

Great mod though. This fills my needs as it nice to know what people are doing.

I agree that the option to restrict who sees and can use this mod would be a nice addition.

An option to limit or set the number of users listed would be perfect.
Examples:
- Show All Members Online
- Show Last 5 Members Online
- Hide Guest Activity

Now using YaBB 2.5.2 with 40+mods

Personally, I love where this puts itself. I have been very involved in the shoutbox project, and I was worried with the way this thing could get very large, that it might distort how the shoutbox mod showed up.

But Carsten had it perfect. It doesn't add itself into the already positioned table setting like all the other mods do ... it creates a brand new one, at the very bottom. I get the idea that no matter when you install this mod, it will probably -always- be the lowest thing on the Board Index, and with it's variable size, that seems to me to be aboslutely perfect! Great job, Carsten.

On the other hand, I am not sure whether or not the mod is working for me. I have installed this on a test board, where I am running the latest CVS. This wasn't written for the CVS, so that may be where the problem lies ... or it may be working just fine, and I need another user on to verify that.

The problem is, its a test forum ... I am the only person on there, much of the time. And any time I go look at it, it doesn't show me anywhere. Perhaps if I had a second user online, I could see what he was doing ... or it just doesn't work with the CVS at this stage. If that is so, it's fine ... I am just wondering which it is. Can most people see themselves on this?

@batchman - you should always be able to at least see yourself in the list. I really don't know if it works for the cvs code.

It may just be conflicts between this mod, and 2.3.2 (CVS).

When the page first loads, the box for Online Activity shows, but it is empty, except for the button. If I press the button, it shows the time, but nothing else. No mention of what I am doing.

Guess I won't be able to use this one on this test forum for a while, yet, and that is perfectly fine. I just wanted to figure out if it was because of the CVS, or other reasons.
