You also have to set your personal settings in your profile, otherwise to the mod you are still a guest in the chat room ... and if you have said guests can't chat ....

I have added details in Profile and turned off allow guests in Chat and yes it works.

Why does it say optional in profile??

Thanks for the work on this Mod lads.

Most of the forum members are in Spain so initially tried IRC servers in Spain France & Germany.  Not much luck as they were looking registration of nickname or unable to lookup domain and disconnected.  Could not get UK to work at all and eventually Demon banned us.  Probably my inexperience with IRC protocol - anyway for information of others set the global irc.efnet.info and all sorted.  This global address appeared to throw us into Holland (onto a server I tried to link direct but it kept refusing) and all was good.  Works a dream.

One function I am not quite clear on is 'Open privat rooms (PM chat) in a new window?'   PM chat? I have this option engaged but?  Any ideas please... (it's probably obvious but Sad )

I've done a bit of reading and the /sound command requires the relative path of the sound file to work so for my system one has to type:

/sound http://www.mydomain.com/LMBOC2-3/public_html/yabbfiles/ModImages/ChatIRC/Sound/d...

to send an alert to anyone on the chat room..

Is there a short cut to send either of the default sounds?

A few members on my forums are having trouble connecting, one is getting this message:

another person says he just sits on the loading screen and nothing happens using IE or firefox. Is this something I need to fix?

I thought I had this cracked OK but after it was working fine with several members in different parts of europe the next day all bar me were being refused by the host.  Same several days later.  I can now log in fine but they cant - all a bit weird but probably my fault..

No changes to admin config...

Perhaps inexperience with IRC protocols - personally I am unsure whether admin needs to log in and register nick each session or not - or difficulties with the server chosen athough I have tried quite a few.

It would be nice if someone who has a stable version installed that is used a lot by members could steer me in the right direction regarding an appropriate host and if necessary protocols or actions ..

Added: Jan 25th, 2009 at 8:25pm   After some hassle this setup now works for me.

Server:  irc.chatcircuit.com

Once admin first initiates Chat window type.....
/register <password> <emailaddress>

(Password being what you used in the IRC box under Options in your personal CP)

response should be something like this....
[19:47] -NickServ- Nickname Chris_S_LMMME has been registered to you.

used the drop down command to register the room....
response should be something like this....
[19:48] -ChanServ- Channel #LMMME_Chat registered under your nickname: Chris_S_LMMME

used the drop down command to identify the room...
response should be something like this....
[19:48] -ChanServ- Password accepted -- you now have founder-level access to #LMMME_Chat.

Encourage members on first use of chat room to type...
/register <password> <emailaddress> although the system appears to work okay without registration but this presumably will avoid conflicts with NickName tags..

There are time limits for Nicknames and Channels in they are not used for a set period of time after which they are deleted and have to be registerd again.

This is not a bug with the software, or anything of that sort, but looking for information about IRC in connection with this version for YaBB.

Also, not specifically for Jet Li, but for anybody who might have any information.

I seem to recall there are registered nicks, and short-term nicks. I also seem to recall one can register a chat room, and that there should be some way to determine who has the power to control things.

Does anyone have any pointers on this kind of stuff? Even if it might involve setting things up with something like mIRC, and then just moving the appropriate settings to the YaBB chat or something like that? Never mind ... the bottom half of the post above gives me some stuff to try with this.

Also ... I have long heard something about bots that could run trivia games, and perhaps some other kind / kinds of games ... but I have also heard something about people using bots being banned, due to evilly purposed bots. Anybody know anything about good vs. bad bots, and who might or might not allow them?

Your right that irc bots have gotten a bad rap with all these botnets used for shady practices.  I used to run a mIRC EFNET chat channel.  I used a botnet to control the channel. Bots are extremely configurable. You can make them do anything. Such as quiz games, info bots etc.  I used them to control the channel so that people behaved. IF you need info let me know.

Check out www.egghelp.org for more info on installing and running eggdrops.  Eggdrop is the name of the bot program

Thanks for the information ... I am visiting the site you linked to, and asking a few questions. Also checking to see how easy or difficult it would be for me to get a shell account for running the bot.

Thanks for the heads up! If I could manage to add trivia and hangman games to my forum chat, this would become the dream feature for my forum!

You need to understand what BoardMod is.  Look at the FAQ link at the top of the page http://www.boardmod.org/faq.php

Then download the BoardMod program to your PC and run it.
