Thread Start Date beta 2 YaBB2
--------------------------------------------------------

Adds the date and time a thread was started in the MessageIndex under the thread starters name.

Two versions of this mod are included, one that shows start time on every thread, and the other that only shows the start time on threads started "Today" or "Yesterday." This version is labeled "Thread Start Date Sometime." Only install one version.

Installation
--------------------
1.  Choose a version to install
2.  Unistall previous version.
3.  Mod the file MessageIndex.pl.pl and ModList.pl
4.  Upload in ASCII to correct directory.

Version History
---------------
v1 - Original release
v2 - Fixed Guest thread starter start time bug.

Comments
----------------
- Requested by Madkeen
- To turn this off and on, uninstall the mod and install the mod, respectively.

Hope this is useful.

Thanks. Instaleld fine.

It is possible though to only have the date, not the time.

Would like to displayed just as

Madkeen
Yesterday
or
Madkeen
Nov 13th

It currently shows as

Madkeen
Yesterday
at 6:37pm
or
Madkeen
Nov 13th, 2005,
11:54am

It also takes up three lines as I have my "Strated by" Column norrower than standard. So the length of the entire page ends up 20 lines longer.

Any suggestions/ideas. Maybe I just have to open up the Started by Column.

Okay, here is the deal.

I have added a second version of the mod that wil display the time ONLY on posts that are from "Today" or "Yesterday."  The space that this takes up is comparable to the date.  It also sticks with what YaBB would normally do.

Check first post.

Just tested it and not quite what I was after.

Is it possible to get rid of the time and just have the date or Today or  Yesterday and the year, only if the year is not the current year.

?

Sorry to be a pain

Sure it's possible, but I think the way it is now will benefit the most people plus it mostly keeps with what YaBB already does (ie.last post date and time). Maybe later on, I will update the mod to allow the admin several options of display in the admin center.

updated for a bug that wouldn't show start dates if a guest was the thread starter.

You need to escape the double-quotes in the ModList.pl string:

... is posted "Today" or "Yesterday." ... => ... is posted \"Today\" or \"Yesterday.\" ...

Otherwise you'll get an error while listing your mods.

@AP, check this link out please, you 2 should get together to make the mod of the year, you have already done 75% of the work with this mod as I see (without even trying, I will later tonight try to instal this one)

Perfect Mod AP - you always come up with some good ones.

However, I get the following output, given that the mod installs without errors

Please see attached - both dates are the same !!

I cant understand why the following displays the current date of the latest post

$threadstartdatestring = &timeformat($threadstartdate);

cheers

Tom,

I am not sure either why this is happpening.  Post your MessageIndex.pl and I take a look.

will do tonight when I get home from work. I should point out Im using .pl files from the CSV version in the yabbforum.

I will uninstall all my other mods as well and give you two versions of messageindex.pl - one with all my mods installed and theother without.

cheers and thanks
Tom

Just for kicks, why not try to use a 2.1 version of the file and install the mod to see if you have the same issue.

Attached is my MessageIndex.pl file that I use.
$messageindexplver = 'YaBB 2.1 $Revision: 1.12 $';

I replaced it with a "native" one from YaBB 2.1
$messageindexplver = 'YaBB 2.1 $Revision: 1.7 $';

and it WORKED ......... suspect an issue with changes made in the revisions of this perl script

cheers
