Updated Slash Shortcuts mod to work with SP 1.4 is now in mod database.  This mod allows the Admin to set up slash shortcuts that work much like the * ironwing shortcut that comes standard in YaBB. This mod works with YaBB SP 1.1, SP 1.3.x, and SP 1.4 forums.

Yup.  You could set it up so when someone typed /dan the text would come up as "Dan, that totally cool guy".
