MailDomainFilter 1.0 - let admin create a list of mail domains legal or illegal at registration.

Select-box in registration if "Mail domains valid for registration" selected.

I applied the mod and do now have the "Set mail domains for registration" option in my Admin screen, but when doing a test registration I don't get the updated "Register Required Information" window nor are the invalid domains being blocked.

site: http://www.stormfans.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi

version: SP 1.3.1

I blocked hotmail and yahoo accounts.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

@Stormfans - you will (of course  Wink ) only have the select box in the "Register Required Information" window is you checked "Mail domains valid for registration" in admin center.

Are you sure you added the domain name + extension eg.: hotmail.com

Okay, I did miss the line about checking the "mail domains valid for registration." I'm not using that feature.

I did select the "not valid' option and did put in 3 domains, on separate lines with their ".com" endings. I hit the "save" button. I can still register with a hotmail account.

Just in case this is still operator error, let me get the obvious stuff out of the way...

When it says one domain per line, all I need to do is type in the domain and hit return to make it a line, right?

I'm not sure I could screw it up any other way. It seems pretty simple.

Thanks,
Scott

-k Scott - just to make sure we got all the obvious stuff out of the way - from your description it's obvious that you did upload english.lng, Sources/Admin.pl and Sources/SubList.pl
  • did you also upload Sources/Register.pl?
  • when you click on "Set mail domains for registration" do you still se the domains you added in the textarea / or in other words, did the script create a "maildom.txt" file containing the domain names in your Variables folder?

This is a wonderful idea.
I too have tried to use this MOD.

When I "Set mail domains for registration" I select the "vaild" option.

I also entered 9 email domains. As Stormfans did I used
mail.net
mail.com
mail.org
format. No commas, semicolons, or any other characture.

Now when I test with the register page it does show the domains in a drop down list as your example top does. Problem is when I use the list and click the Register button I get the message "Sorry, you can not register using the mail domain: ". When I return to Set mail domain admin screen and change the radio button to "not vaild" (or change the 0 to a 1 in maildom.txt) the drop down list does not display in the register page, as expected, but I can register using the mail domins in the list.

I am running sp1.3.1
addSmiles2_sp13.mod
MemberMap_sp13.mod (very nice btw)
Polls_3_SP13.mod
Polls_3_Showcase_SP13.mod
amm_sp131_15.mod
adv_memberview_plus_31b_amm.mod

I removed mail_domain and re-applied it. I tested again and had the same results.

As you can see I am a fan of your work, (avatar creeps me out though).  I would like to use this maildomian mod.

My BulletinBoard is Intranet only but if it would help I could duplicate it on a public test machine.

Thanks for all your work in this forum!

Oups! It's a bug!! Sorry about that...

Fixed in the mod to download from first post.

In Register.pl find:
Code
Select All
      ($dummy, $memmaildom) = split(/\@/, $member{'email',2});

and replace it with:
Code
Select All
      ($dummy, $memmaildom) = split(/\@/, $member{'email'},2);

Thanks Carsten!

I made the change in Register.pl as described.
I then enabled the "valid for registration" button and saved.
Logout and tested.

Works great!

I also tested the "not valid" button and this worked as expected. I was pleased to see that mail domains are not case sensitive.

Thank you again

I think I found a bug - I could be wrong.

I have the following domains listed as INVALID domains as they are free email domains.

mail.com
email.com

When a member tries to register with a domain of "ozemail.com.au", which is a valid domain, they get an error of "invalid domain"

Can this be looked at. If it is a bug, then any domain that is banned, like "snappy.com", will also ban "snappying.com" or "snappying.com.au"

I was using beta 0.6, but checked with version 1 of this mod, and only one line is different.

I could wrong though in my assesment of the above !!

cheers
Tom

Said it before and I'll say it again. Carsten you RULE!!!!  Grin
Exactly what I posted for in "Mod Ideas, Requests & Feedback" forum.

EDIT: Hehe a guy today regged with his legit email then logged in and changed it to a blacklisted one (yahoo.com). I deleted his account, he should have read the agreement. Wink
Carsten, any chance you could script a check when the profile is being updated? Or backup other email addys previously used?
