IMPORTANT for FA 2.5 users

SOLUTION

To avoid repeating this problem and the solution to it over and over again I'll post it only once and sticky it.

If file attachment is not working and you use the following combination of mods there is a fix.

- FA 2.5B (by Dave Baughman)
- Advanced User Mute/Ban mod (by Shoeb Omar)

The last of these two mods is incompatible with any version of FA because of the double use of one variable.

The symptoms are like:

- Files are not attached or written as 0 bytes
- Multiple entries of a file called MUTE are found in the attachment admin center

How to fix it ?

- Uninstall Advanced User Mute
- Open the .mod file for this mod in a text editor
- Do a search and replace on the word "$file" into "$banfile"
- Save the .mod file
- Reinstall the Advanced User Mute/Ban mod again.
- Go into FA admin and remove any remaining MUTE entries.

All i did was move boards to a new server and i get the 0kb error.

It used to work, and i don't have user/ban installed

Where is this mod?  I've looked all over and can't find it... I've even lost my trail of bread crumbs a few times... Can ya point me in the right direction?

I did not say that this was a universal fix, only a fix for advanced ban/mute user problems Wink

BTW
I need a userid too on order to log in to your FTP Tongue

I'm almost sure it is chmods for your site.

Finally I got my finger after the 0 byte problem in FA and the reasons yet mentioned are not the ones.

It's not Cpanel
It's not /usr/tmp access rights
It's not the override settings

It is is GD Perl CGI.pm 3.0x included in any Perl 5.8.x installation.

I had a working version on my webserver until I upgraded to Perl 5.8.4 and I got 0 bytes no matter what trick I tried.
I downgraded back to Perl 5.6.1 and voila, everything worked again.

I get the same responses now from the SP2 devs working on Linux based servers.

As I'm working on a new version of FA anyway I'll just integrate a local version of CGI.pm which works on all servers.

Ever taken a look at V3.0 of FA, cause that is the solution to the problem.
Problem is the combo 2.5x and Perl 5.8.x not working because CGI.pm sucks.
The new version has its own server/perl independent CGI.pm.
