I run a win2k pro server w/ apache. (I hate IIS) chmod not an option. Other suggestions?

Hi There.

I'm kinda having the same problem as Jessicah.

I installed the Mod ok and get:


An Error Has Occured!
Please note that your image must be gif, jpg or png
and that the display will be resized.
The allowed maximun size is 20 kB


The server my forum is on is Unix. I've tried these paths in my settings:

Upload Avatar Absolute Path = ../..YaBBImages/avatars/personal
Upload Avatar URL = http://www.gta-jutecity.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/YaBBImages/avatars/personal

I have also tried changing the Absolute to:
/htdocs/YaBBImages/avatars/personal


I've also tried chmoding my personal folder to 777 = No change.

I've also tried chmoding my avatar folder to 777 = No change.

Then my YaBBImages folder to 777 = No change.

I'v even did this in the opposite order still testing the upload each time and I still get the familiar error. Nothing is uploaded, nor is there anything in the avatar field of the Profile. Hell, I don't bounce back to the Profile page anyway,

Incidentally, my image folders don't stay chmodded to my new settings. Should I be using an avatar folder within my cgi-bin?

Can someone please help me. I've also attached ny Profile.pl file in case it helps (had to change the file name)..

Thanks for your reply.

It still doesn't work. My $boarddir was already chmodded to 755 so I changed it to 777. My YaBBImages, avatars and personal folders are all 777.

I altered the Absolute Path to /htdocs/YaBBImages/avatars/personal and I still get the error I described in my previous post.

I tried running the envirolyser.pl. However, I was confused about the instructions. I mean, I managed to chmod and browse to the file okay. I just didn't know what to add in the USER-MODIFIABLE VARIABLES part.

Anyway, the evirolyzer did bring up some results. However, the only thing remotely resembling a path with htdocs included in it, was the path to the envirolyzer.pl itself which began with /tier-2/pwpstore etc.... Therefore, I modified my absolute path to my avatars to include this. i.e tier-2/pwpstore etc.../htdocs/YaBBImages/avatars/personal. This never worked either.

What else is there left that I can try?

I'm afraid this didn't work either. Incidentally, I myself, last night tried that very same absolute path which you entered. I mentioned it in a previous post. Anyway, here's my checklist:



1. /YaBBImages/avatars/personal All Chmodded to 777.

2. Every other combination tried and tested until All were chmodded back to 755.

3. I also tried it with my yabb folder chmodded to 777. Still nothing. 

4. Tried absolute path /htdocs/YabbImages/avatars/personal.

5. Tried the absolute path /tier-2/pwpstore4 etc... found in the Envirolyzer.pl.

6. Also tried ../../YaBBImages/avatars/personal. Purely because some of the other paths in the settings are set like this. You never know!

7. The server is Unix so I took great the care-sensitivity issue.



None of this seems to have worked. I still get the dreaded:

Pity, an avatar upload feature would have been a very nice functional addition to my board. Never mind, I have offered to host avatars for members. However, the inconvenience this causes as opposed to an easy upload option probably puts 'some' people off.

Anyway thank you very much for spending the time to try and help me get this working. I really appreciated your help and hope that other folks don't have as much trouble as me using this mod. However, I am forever mindful that this is the BETA Mods board and that you're still working on it.

@burnerO: i did some checks already - only jpg,png,gif could be uploaded. And you say that PHP could be too ? i will try...

It checks the file extension, but not the contents.

Renaming a .php script to .jpg etc will allow for it to upload, and execute through internet explorer.

What I'm requesting would scan the uploaded file for traces of code and reject it accordingly.
