installed mod, working great, except...

Guests are not being counted. I have two comps and I am not signed in on one. On that computer is says there is 1 guest and 1 user. Yet, on the comp that I am signed in on it is not showing 1 guest. Any suggestions?

I read this in the MOD file, "if guestaccess is turned off "Guests" will not be displayed and counted to the online counter file"

TIA

Edit: Another Problem, When i go to the "who's online" section and click on a click to go to wehre someone is, I get the "You are not allowed to access this section." error.

Man I like this mod...

I was wondering how to get the Whos on display...
ie... YaBB.pl?action=who  to show people in places
that show up blank in the ACTION block...
ie...  Bill is currently viewing who is online.
Shows blank from lots of places on my site...

@herozup
I think that the tool uses the IP address to
differentiate and so if you are on a local net
and logged on to the InterNet ... same IP address...
maybe...

and the error ...  back on page 2, this thread,  message #18 and #20

By the way is that a good book on Perl...
I haven't bought any yet and was getting ready
to buy one and just wondering...

thanks..

bill

<edit>

I think after reading a little more I see what I need to do... the UserLogger.pl has to be in place...

I do need to use this, UserLogger.pl, in another Perl script... can I just use Require etc... etc...??
any information is really helpful...

well,,, i still would like to be able to show exactly where they are...
Is there a way??

Thanks ...

@Bill - Thanks for the heads up on the improper linking. Just to let you know I do read threads before I go posting all willy nilly. But that did the trick there.

As far as the number of guest, you were right and wrong. It was using the same IP, but that is not the problem. I had a buddy sign in this morning and then sign out and it did not see him as a guest.

I looked and I believe that YaBB uses the username to log whether there are guests or users on the board.

As far as the book, yeah it a good one. SAMS Teach yourself Perl in 24 hours. I have had it for 2 weeks and I am on hour 6. But I am really trying to understand not jsut read through.

Hi herozup

I saw guests on my site??

well, anyway I have a few 'bugs' in the proverbial ointment...

The log.txt is recording username and time twice...
the orignal time and then again with the details..
Is your doing that or do I have some other mod
affecting it?
I will try to figure that out...

On my BoardIndex.pl I have a shoutbox...
the log is recording the boardindex first then the
shoutbox... so i loose track of people after the
shoutbox loads....

and of course the next question is
how much CPU is the logging taking?

You mean the SAMS that I used to get Schematics from??

I think the log.txt thing is you mentioned is normal. Look in Subs.pl search for the Writelog sub. It tells it to put all that in there.

I have a shoutbox too.

Here is the really screwed up thing. I had my buddy stay logged on and I logged off and he could see me as a guest. But still when he logs off I can't see him as a guest. WOW! Messed up! Maybe it is just my comp. i can live with it!

And SAMS like in www.samspublishing.com

Well,,, I have not been able to figure out how
to include the UserLogger.pl in my other Perl Scripts...

and not a clue as to how to get the other parts
of my site ... YaBB .. to not just show a blank
on the ACTION box....

I wonder if anybody has any Ideas ....

Turns out it is real easy to add the missing YaBB locations in the Who.pl  ...

but, I still need to figure out how to call the script
UserLogger.pl from another perl script...
without adding the whole UserLogger.pl code in the existing script...

Adding the tool to YaBB action(s)  was easy ... but....

Were you able to call UserLogger.pl from
an external to YaBB Perl Script?

I would really like an easy way to add this tool
to external scripts as some of my site uses
other scripts to do other things...

as i wrote this it came to me...
use the YaBB action to call all the stuff at my site
then ... I would know exactly where each visitor was...

any thoughts??

I've got to get one of those books...
I hate OnLine reference tools... Just a stack of paper...
@Chris_Yew:

You're thinking of the "Users Today" mod:

http://www.boardmod.org/mods.php?dl=474&filename=UsersToday.zip
I think that mod needs some editing before it does what it's supposed to do. Both (english) files are trying to edit BoardIndex.pl...most should probably change that to Sources\BoardIndex.pl

And the Users Online compatible version is missing the list of names, so you should add $usertoday here yourself. The 3rd step Replace by line should be like this:
           $uwhoonline$uguest $uuser<BR>$users<BR>$uttxt{'1'} $usertodaycount $uttxt{'2'} $usertoday $uonline

The bolded part seems to be missing...

At least it works just fine for me by adding that one

Can someone tell me why I can see some users are online, but they're not being counted in the who's been online today?

ah... a little more information...

I think the people have to go to the BoardIndex.pl in
order for the UsersOnLineTody to get updated...
