Here is an updated version of the good old news script mod. Besides of beeing compatible with 1.3/1.3.1/1.3.2/1.4 (for SP1-SP1.2 please download v1.3) it also contains a lot of new features.

This mod has successfully been tested, if you have problems, you might want to check the thread in the beta board for already solved issues.



Description:
Need a news script but already have a YaBB board installed? No problem with this mod you can turn one of your boards, a category or even the whole forum into a news page.

How it works:
The script will interpret all topics on the news board as news and the replys as comments. You can easily edit and delete news just by using the normal yabb functions. It is HIGHLY recommented that you install something like the "announcement" or the "MBC2" (More Board & Category Options v2.0) mod to restict posting to that board to admins and moderators.


Installation:
There are different ways to add these news to your homepage. With this mod, you can add it via SSI, PHP, Iframes or JavaScript.

ChangeLog for v2.0:
  • added topic cache => speeds things up A LOT!!!
  • rewrote large parts of the mod. Now opens a lot less files => speed up!!!
  • you can now use your whole forum as news page! Simply remove 'board=...' or 'cat=...' from your url
  • added new tags:
        - <yabb print>
        - <yabb cat_id>
        - <yabb cat_name>
  • updated default template to make use of new tags
  • updated documentation
  • moved language definitions to language file
  • all subs and vars now have a 'news_' prefix => less conflicts with other mods


ChangeLog for v1.3:
  • fixed <yabb lastposter> not showing if last poster is a guest
  • added <yabb send_topic_url> tag


ChangeLog for v1.2:
  • compatible to SP1.3
  • a lot of code has been rewritten
  • now work with javascript & iframe
  • added new tags:
        - <yabb views>
        - <yabb replies>
        - <yabb comments_text>
        - <yabb viewcomments_url>
        - <yabb writecomment_url>
        - <yabb icon_src>
        - <yabb lastposter>
        - <yabb size>
        - <yabb boardname>
        - <yabb userpic>
        - <yabb userpic_src>
        - <yabb link_target>
  • new options:
        - sort posts by last reply or creation time
        - cut message text after a set amount of words
        - cut message text after first paragraph
  • support for multiple news templates
  • can load all topics under a category (multiple boards)
  • fixed / me tag not displaying properly

I did a search in the mods for "announcement" and didn't get any results for anything compatable with 1.3

Can you recomend something specific?

But one question - the "/me"-tag doesn't works there. It don't displays the name of poster in news. Sad What do you think about it? Wink

Actually have added a few tags to the old version you have to make stuff like jump to last post work.

Here's the list of tags I use now.

I don't think so, if someone wants to read the comments, it doesn't make sense to jump to the last comment.

The only tags which aren't available in this version here are
# <yabb boardid> - board ID name which contains the news

I wouldn't think so, I've had a few ideas for making a perl shoutbox, using YaBB, there are a few mods out there that could be modified into a shoutbox mod (namely the 'never ending story' mod, combined with the 'quick reply mod' - and using the mod that makes posts on certain boards not show up in your main post count)

It's possible, but it's a big job, why not make another thread about it somewhere? Wink - If I had time, I'd do it myself.
