MOD UPDATES FOR SP1.3 REMARKS

Print Post
This is getting out of hand now

As everybody is still extatic about a new and much faster version of YaBB I can just imagine the immense hunger for SP1.3 compatible mods resulting in a blooming exposure of unofficially updated mods everywhere on the board.

I'd like to remind all goodwilling (and innocent of heart) people releasing SP1.3 compatible mods that are not originally theirs that they are infringing the copyright of the original author.

So unless you have permission from the original author of a mod to go ahead and release it you are in a very grey area which is very confusing for the rest of the users and people trying to support.
So please refrain from releasing unofficial updates unless you are allowed to do so by the original author.

And if you release and update please do it in the appropriate section of this board so we do not have to browse the complete board in search for SP1.3 mods.

If it's a new mod it should start out in the Beta section, if it's a finished mod it should be in the section belonging to the correct YaBB version.

I think somewhere on this board there is a very limited set of simple rules the board management likes us to use for mod release and if we all keep to these rules updating to SP1.3 should be a blast Grin

Thanks Fellow Mod Writers.

PS
This is a request I personally make and I'm not in any way involved with the boardmod staff. Grin

Cheeky. I've been waiting for Shoeb's stamp of approval before I use that particular mod. Has it been checked or is an official release coming?

@Shoeb- are you still sick as hell?

I saw it released yesterday, put in a nasty reply to ZOO, and then told Christer, who promptly closed the topic Wink

meh, I opened it again - as far as I'm concerned he saved me some work, though i would have been proper for him to ask me first befor e a release.

Is there anywhere that gives easy to use instructs for upgrading to 1.3 ?  I don't want to use the update mod, I'd rather get the full version and upload all the files for YaBB, then I don't have to mess about uninstalling mods that I have on my 1.2. In other words, what files do I need to keep so that all my postings and my member lists and member details/profiles etc are kept intact through the upgrade?  If there is somewhere that explains this could someone please post a link, or if not, would some kind soul post instructs?

regards,

Dion

Propose New Mods Rule
Print Post
Can I propose a new rule to be added to the modding boards? Something I have had happen is where I see a mod in say the completed 1.3 mods board, I download it and it doesn't work, I add a posting in the thread and am told I 'need a couple of .pl files from the 1.1 version' I'm sure others have found this. Or a mod posted where it says, "you also need to download the previous version zip for the graphics files"

Can it not be made a rule that mods are posted COMPLETE!  others must have had the same problems as above, having to trawl around for extra files, the time spent in answering support questions from people looking for the extra files would have been saved if the mod writer posted a complete mod file. It just seems lazy to me. Anyone else agree?

regards,

Dion

Dion,

Most of the established mod writers have sort of the same style of presenting finished mods to this board.
The link is always in the first message as is the full mod description.
Furthermore there is a Topic line with titel and mod version and in the first message most of the time there is a version history.

Any non finished mods (still needing testing) should be in the beta section.
In the last board it is very possible that various versions and beta's are attached to messages taking a full read as the only option to figure out if you have the latest version.
But.... that's what a beta board is for, trial and error often.
