IT WORKS GREAT - Must modify something because I have 3 other mods installed that writes infos in the $curboard.dat file but this was no problem .. Now it works great - When I found anything that dont works I will report but I think that all will work

Step one? How many of these steps are there?


So, you don't want an option in the "Edit boards" admin area? you want a dropdown list in the message index! - you could have told me earlier  

Adapting the sort routine to sort by different criteria shouldn't be a problem - it's just a question of finding where the relevent information is stored.

The second drop-down box should also be possible - simply mask out any thread older than xx days. This may cause a problem for paging - I'll have to look at the code.

Questions (open to everyone):

• What sort options do you want?
• What "age" filters do you want?
• Where do you want the drop-down lists put?
• Do you want an admin option to turn sorting off?
• Do you want an "Edit Boards" option? Default sort order for each board? Enable sorting on selected boards only? What?
• Would you like a cherry on that?

If I include an "Edit Boards" option, I can see it causing compatibility problems with other mods that write information to the boards.dat file (unless I create yet another data file)


I was wondering, can anyone tell me why the information the boards.dat files is in the format:
    data1
    date2
    date3
and not like in Settings.pl:
    $Variable1 = data1;
    $Variable2 = data2;
    $Variable3 = data3;

The second format would eliminate mod compatibility problems because the order of the information within the .dat file doesn't matter. The same can also be said for the .dat files which store the uses profile information - using the second format would make adding additional profile information easier!

Changing the format now will probably cause more problems than it solves, I was just curious as to why it is the way it is?

Steps 1-4 sound OK, not sure about step 5
