Give Your Text A 3D Look
-If you wanna give your text a 3d look (mostly used for the <yabb menu> code) type this code in...
Code
Select All
<td class="varjo" valign="middle" align="center"><font face="Verdana" size="2" color="#000000"><strong><yabb menu></strong></font></td>

That should do the job Wink!

-Use Valid HTML/XHTML

Remember, not everyone will be using the same browser as you. With that in mind, you'll want to use the most up to date standards for you template. The best way to check on this is through the W3C's validation service. Just give them the url to your template file and let them do the rest.

http://validator.w3.org/

-Check the Vault first

Before you submit your design to the Template Vault, make sure that the same basic thing is not there. This is the number one cause of "rejected" templates.

-Ditch the News Fader

Ok, it was cute when it first came out, but now it's almost annoying. To top it all off, it dosen't work in all browsers (such as Opera and some Netscape versions)

To remove it, go into your Admin Center and click on "Forum Preferences and Settings". About half way down, look for "Show News Fader on Board Index?", uncheck that and no more news fader.

Still want news on your site? Well you're in luck! Just add the <yabb news> to your template and you'll have a static news bar that changes on every page (like the one one at www.yabbforum.com/community)

-News Fader Background Color

So what do I know, right? You like the fader and that's the end of that. Now begs the question, "how do I change the background color?"

1)In your Template file, change this call in your CSS -
Code
Select All
.windowbg2    { background-color: #F8F8F8; font-size: 11px; font-family: Verdana; color: #000000; }

-Changing your Forum Colors

You can find a GREAT tutorial on this here -
http://www.yabbforum.com/community/?board=graph_temp;action=display;num=99989741...

(the same tutorial can be found here on the "Tutorial Board")

-Remove the CSS

Looking for a small speed boost? Want to cut back on your bandwidth? Then your answer is offing the CSS!

To do this, cut out everything between the <style></style> tags (Don't bring the style tags with you.) Now remove the style tags from your template. Now, open up a new text file and paste all of the CSS you just removed and save the file as "style.css". Upload this to the same directory as your template.html file and we're half way there!

The last part is to add this code between your head (<head></head>) tags -

Code
Select All
<link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" type="text/css">

Poof! You're done! Make sure, however, that if you submit it to the Template Vault you put the CSS back in. Smiley

(Just a note, I'm sick, so if that didn't sound right to you, forgive me..lol..I'll fix it later..heh)

The next beta of the SSI Center mod will incorporate the whoson functions like who is on line and forum stats into <yabb tags>.  Hop over to the beta board if you want to read about it.  I just worked up the script today so it will be a few days before the beta is out (maybe sooner) as I'm waiting for some feedback about how the tags should function.  The test page link in the first post shows the current state of affairs.  Look at the Whoson Test block.  Obviously there is a ways to go in formatting the output of these tags.

These might come in handy for selecting/testing colors, though they're originally designed for YSE:
you can remove the style classes that aren't needed in Y1G afterwards

so...if I understand this correctly ... I can make tables in something like Dream Weaver  ... put the YaBB tags where I want them and that will change the orientation of the page ...

My mind went crazy and I don't know when it's coming back.  If you happen to see my mind please ask it if it's found my marbles yet, will you?
